We present our helpful guide to show a step-by-step resource to order stair nosings online correctly.

Help Guide for Ordering GRP Stair Nosings Online

Usually People Opt to Choose: "Your Length" x 55mm (Rise) x 55mm (Going) to suit design standards requirements.

Stair Nosings Sizes

Step One: Select your nosing length

Input a nosing length which matches the length of the step you want to cover, from side to side of the walking area.

  • We offer sizes up to 3000mm long, if you have a longer area to cover, these strips join together perfectly so divide the area and order lengths to this size.

Step Two: Select your going depth

Input size which matches the depth of the going (top surface) you want to cover.

  • A going is the depth of the material at the top of the step where you place your foot whilst walking up or down the stairs (from front to back).

  • This is commonly 55mm to meet the DDA requirements for a high visual sightline (which should be at least 55mm).

  • If you require a surface than spans the whole going or longer than 110mm, you require a non slip stair tread.

Step Three: Select your riser height

  • Input the size which matches your choice of riser height (the height of the step).

  • A riser is the height of the front facing surface you wish to make your nosing.

  • This does not have to be the entire riser length of your staircase, as this will be longer than the 110mm limit.

  • Most people opt for a 55mm riser to meet the DDA requirements for a high visual sightline (which should be at least 55mm).

  • If you require to cover the riser surface underneath, you can add a riser cover plate to your order as an extra to your required gap size.

Step Four: Choose the material thickness

Need help choosing the correct thickness? 4mm & 6mm are our most popular thicknesses.

Step Five: Choose your grit duty size

  • Pick your preference: Standard Grit is most common but we also offer Heavy Duty (Double Grit) & Barefoot (Light Duty) Grit:

  • If you have heavy duty goods travelling across the surface (such as chairs or suitcases) pick heavy duty grit.

  • If you are likely to have persons walking over the surface without footwear, choose barefoot grit. (Ideal for swimming pools or hot tub staircase areas).

Step Size: Choose the colour of the nosing

  • Pick your preference, or request any RAL colour with our technical sales team:

  • We have our nine most popular colours to choose from - yellow and white are the most common.

  • We recommend you choose a colour that contrasts from your staircase to allow the nosing to act as a high visual sightline for DDA Compliance purposes.

  • You can view a full colour options list which is at the bottom of the technical specification tab.

Step Seven: Choosing your pre-drilled holes requirements:

Choose from Yes or No to requiring pre-drilled holes.

  • If you are using screws to fixing your nosings down to the surface, it may save time for us to pre-drill the holes in preparation for you.

  • It's completely up to you and easy enough to do it on-site, but our team can offer to do this for you, and drill holes across the strip with the required spacings.

  • If you want pre-drilled holes, but want to specify your own quantity, spacings and positionings, choose "YES" and in the latter stages of your order you will be prompted to add notes where you can specify these.

For more specific requests, or to send us a drawing, speak to our technical sales team who will be able to add this to your order requirements.
